What Is the Uiwang Rail Bike?
The Uiwang Rail Bike is the first rail bike in Korea to circle an entire lake. Instead of riding through mountains or old railway tunnels, you'll slowly pedal your way around beautiful Wangsong Lake, passing flower tunnels, bird habitats, lakeside scenery, and several themed sections along the route.
Because it's so close to Seoul, it's become a popular day-trip destination for couples, families, and anyone wanting a slower-paced outdoor experience.

Our Experience
We visited Uiwang as part of a relaxed day trip from Seoul, pairing the rail bike with the nearby zipline and a lakeside café. The atmosphere immediately felt much calmer than the city. Instead of busy streets and skyscrapers, we were surrounded by water, greenery, cyclists, and families enjoying the weekend. If you want to experience some peace a quiet, without seeing another foreigner, this is a great place to spend some time.
After buying our tickets from the kiosk, we just had to walk over and jump on the first rail bike in line. It was around 11am on a Friday, and we were the first passengers of the day. Once we started pedalling, the pace slowed right down. There was no pressure to rush—just enough effort to keep the bike moving while taking in the views around the lake. We were the only ones on the track so we could have taken as long as we wanted, though the tickets do suggest you should be back by 1 hour.
We are pretty active (and competitive) people, so we raced through some parts just for the fun of it and finished in around 40 minutes! But the scenery around the lake was so beautiful and varied that we felt very inspired to slow down and take it all in.
What Is the Ride Like?
The route is about 4.3 km long and is designed to be enjoyable rather than challenging. Along the way you'll pass through:
- Flower tunnel
- Bird ecology area
- Lakeside viewpoints
- Photo zone
- Speed zone
- Open stretches with panoramic views of Wangsong Lake
One thing we really appreciated was how varied the scenery felt. Even though you're simply riding around one lake, the different themed sections stop it from becoming repetitive.
Unlike some rail bikes that spend long periods inside tunnels, this one offers open views for most of the ride.
How Long Does It Take?
Plan for around one hour in total.
That includes:
- Checking in
- Boarding
- The rail bike ride itself
If you're making a day trip, we'd recommend allowing at least two hours at the rail park so you can also take photos and enjoy the lake afterwards. There are walking paths and bird watching spots all around the lake and surrounding wetland areas.
Best Time to Visit
🌸 Spring
Probably the rail bikes most popular season. There may be longer crowds at this time, especially on the weekends. Flowers begin blooming around the lake, temperatures are comfortable, and everything feels fresh.
☀ Summer
This is when we went, and in the morning it was perfect with a light breeze coming off the water. Expect lush greenery and long daylight hours, but midday can be hot.

🍂 Autumn
Beautiful autumn colors make this one of the most photogenic times to visit.

❄ Winter
A quieter experience with a completely different atmosphere. Just dress warmly.

What We Loved
✅ Beautiful scenery throughout the ride
✅ Easy to reach from Seoul
✅ Great for couples and families
✅ Relaxing pace
✅ Plenty of opportunities for photos
✅ Easy to combine with other attractions nearby
Things to Keep in Mind
No attraction is perfect.
Here are a few things we think you should know before booking.
- There isn't a huge amount of shade during some parts of the ride.
- Summer afternoons can get very hot.
- Weekend departures are much busier.
- If you're looking for something thrilling, this probably isn't exciting enough on its own.
- The price is a little steep, especially if you are going on the weekend, though this is kind of true for all the rail bikes in Korea.
Who Should Visit?
Perfect For
✔ Bird watchers
✔ Couples looking for a fun date
✔ Families
✔ Visitors wanting a relaxing day trip
✔ Photography lovers
✔ First-time visitors to Korea
Maybe Skip It If...
You only have one or two days in Seoul and want to focus on the city's major attractions.
Or, if you're looking for a faster, high-adrenaline activity, you'll probably enjoy the nearby zipline more than the rail bike.
Our Tips
- Arrive about 10-20 minutes before the hour you want to depart at.
- Bring water during summer.
- Wear comfortable shoes.
- Don't rush back to Seoul after the ride—walk around Wangsong Lake or stop at a nearby café.
- Pair your visit with the Uiwang Zipline for a more complete day trip.
Is the Uiwang Rail Bike Worth It?
Absolutely.
The Uiwang Rail Bike isn't designed to be the fastest, highest, or most thrilling attraction in Korea—and that's exactly why we enjoyed it.
It offers something increasingly rare near Seoul: the chance to slow down. Between the lakeside scenery, gentle pace, and easy access by public transport, it makes for a refreshing escape from the city without requiring an early start or a long journey.
If you're planning a relaxed day trip with friends, family, or your partner, we'd happily recommend adding it to your itinerary.
